“ My Music is a expression of my being, it reflects passion, Pain, inspiration and love”
Think Psychedelic, Trap, Hip Hop, Electronic and World Music all rolled into one boundary-less explosion and you have self proclaimed SPACE-Man Shaman..... Ruinz ASON.
Taking inspirations from life growing up in South London juxtaposed with one foot in the ethereal realms, ASON has developed a truly universall sound which has seen him become renowned for his conceptional song writing, Experimentation and Energetic live performances which he attributes to studying performances from many of his inspirations such as Bob Marley, Prince, Andre 3000, Mike Skinner and Lauryn Hill. ASON has performed his extensive and eclectic catalogue in many venues and festivals around the UK including London, Liverpool, Maidstone, and Manchester as well as international headline shows in Talinn & Tartu (Estonia), Lisbon, Berlin and Barcelona.
ASON studied Music Technology at Croydon College and then to a Commercial Music Degree at The University of Westminster. In his final year he self-released his first solo Mixtape - 2008’s A Hero And A Villain Vol.1 noted at the time for being one of the first Mixtape’s to contain mostly original beats. This project produced ASON's first Single Will And A Way leading to its video featuring heavily on UK Sky TV Channel Flava TV. This Project would go on to be the first of 6 projects he would release with his Brother, Producer and DJ..... J- Flames,
“I'm about being myself in every moment, hopefully others can see IT'S cool to be THEMSELVES too ”
After the Success of his first mixtape, a string of performances and interest from many ears within the music industry, Ason went on to release another Mixtape a year later Entitled "Street Magic" with North London DJ "Magic Jay". But it was 2010's Collaboration Album with renowned New York DJ and Protege to Funk Master Flex DJ Technic that would establish Ruinz ASON as not just a rapper but a creative song writer and visionary artist not afraid to go left!
This was summarised by ASON'S choice to record an album of all original songs over original beats at a time where Mixtape's with remixed songs and borrowed beats dominated Hiphop Music. It was also at a time where UK and US collaborations were not very common..
The album was Hoodstarz and Villains which was produced by J-Flames with Co production by ASON and editing and scratching by DJ Technic it produced the popular single ‘Calling’. In a review with RWD Mag the album was described as a Classic by renowned Journalist Hattie Collins.
A year later (2011) ASON would release Champions Breakfast EP a polarising body of work that contained a juxtaposition of hard hitting street bangers like Post Man, Cook Like You & Look, Pass Da P's against softer, soul infused introspective jams like Closer, Too Sexy For A Funeral and a Remix of Prince's Diamonds and Pearls. This would be a time in Ruinz ASON's career where he would look at his own direction in music, analyse where and if he fitted in and re-evaluate what he wanted to express in his future music. It would also be a time of deep personal self discovery and continued self expansion.
“WHEN PEOPLE FEEL THEY'VE PLACED ME IN A BOX, I END UP STANDING NEXT TO THEM LOOKING AT THE BOX I WAS MEANT TO BE IN.”
